  • Build minutes exhausted

    Netlify's free tier includes 300 build minutes/month. Once exhausted, deploys pause silently until the next cycle or a plan upgrade.

  • Function cold start latency

    Netlify Functions (AWS Lambda under the hood) cold-start slower than Vercel Edge. Keep them warm with a low-frequency cron ping if latency matters.

  • Form submissions dropped

    Netlify Forms rely on the deploy including the correct data-netlify attribute. A framework re-render can strip it — verify the raw HTML at build time.

Background

Netlify was founded in 2014 by Mathias Biilmann and Christian Bach, and effectively invented the Jamstack category before Vercel entered the market. It acquired Gatsby in 2023 and has since leaned harder into edge functions and personalization as differentiation vs Vercel.
